Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between full grain and top grain leather watch straps?
Full grain leather retains the natural surface of the hide, making it more durable, breathable, and capable of developing a rich patina. Top grain leather has the top layer sanded for uniformity, offering a cleaner look at a lower price but with slightly reduced longevity.
Are leather watch straps waterproof?
No. Leather is not water-resistant and should be kept dry. Exposure to water, sweat, or humidity can cause staining, warping, and accelerated wear. Remove your leather strap before swimming, showering, or heavy exercise.
How do I break in a stiff leather watch strap?
Wear the strap for short periods initially to allow the leather to soften and mold to your wrist. Avoid forcing tight bends. A small amount of leather conditioner can accelerate the break-in process. Within 1–2 weeks, the strap will conform comfortably.
Will a 20mm leather strap fit my Apple Watch?
Our Apple Watch leather bands are purpose-built with Apple-specific lugs. For standard watches, measure the distance between your lugs in millimeters—20mm is the most common size for Seiko, Hamilton, and Timex field watches.
Are quick-release leather straps as secure as traditional fixed straps?
Yes. Quick-release spring bars are secure for everyday wear, office environments, and social occasions. The integrated mechanism is rated for daily use. For extreme sports or heavy manual labor, a traditionally mounted strap may offer marginally more security.
Which leather strap color is the most versatile?
Black leather is the most formal and versatile. Dark brown bridges casual and professional settings. Cognac/tan adds vintage warmth and pairs well with autumn tones and field watches. Start with black or dark brown for maximum flexibility.
How often should I condition my leather watch strap?
Apply a quality leather conditioner every 3–6 months, depending on wear frequency and climate. In dry or hot climates, condition more frequently. Wipe the strap with a dry cloth after each wear to remove skin oils and dust.
